Parents will be sent the following documents prior to starting at Tina's Tots. These documents will need completing and returning to the nursery manager.
- Contract stating the days required will need returning before your place is secured.
- Invoice which is to be paid on or before the 28th of the month prior to starting childcare
- All About Me form which provides all the vital information we require to provide your child with the unique care they need.
- Allergy notification needs to be completed if your child has any allergies.
- Medical notification needs to be completed should your child have any medical needs or requirements.
Once all your paperwork is received the only thing left to do is set up your personalised settling in sessions. A plan will be put in place to ensure your child is as happy and settled as possible ready for their first full session with us.
You will have already provided us with the All About Me form to ensure we have all the information we need to provide the best care for your child and we would have already met you and your child in your settling in sessions the fortnight prior to your first day. So on your first day just bring your child with their backpack and feel confident that they are going to have a great day.
What to put in their backpack on the first day:
- Changes of clothes (children get quite messy with all the sensory play, outdoor play and obviously feeding themselves).
- Coat
- Sun hat/woolly hat
- Indoor shoes/slippers
- Wellies in winter
- All in one wet suit in winter (not a must)
- Nappies
- Wipes
- Formula/breast milk plus sterilised bottles for the day
- Dummy/comforter
- Water bottle if in Pre School Room
What not to put in their backpack:
- Medication (hand in to the office)
- Food (All food other than 1st stages of weening will be provided)
- Toys
The nursery manager will set you up on Tapestry so that you can activate your account and start receiving notifications and observations.
Your child's key worker will make contact via Tapestry or face to face should COVID allow within your first week.
Each day you will receive your child's care plan via Tapestry which will provide you with information on:
What food your child has eaten
Times your child has slept
Activities your child has been apart of
Nappies your child has had
Along with the care plan detailed above you will receive comments, questions and feedback from staff via Tapestry and of course observations.
Observations show the learning taking place. You may find you receive quite a few in your first week as we get to know your child, or in fact that there are very few as maybe your child is just getting used to us and the routine and is taking their time to settle in before showing us all the wonderful things they can do. Each child responds differently to new environments and new people so just allow them time to flourish in their own way.
Depending on how many sessions your child does per week we would expect that after their first month or so that they are happy to come to Tina's Tots, leaving parents at the door with confidence and a smile.
Your child's key worker should have a good understanding of your child, their likes, dislikes, interests and ways of learning and will be happy to share their findings with you via a Tapestry update comment.
Your child will have had their learning tracked on our trackers based on what is observed through independent and adult lead play.
Your child's key worker will be planning activities based on your child's development needs and setting targets to achieve over the next few months. You should begin to see some comments on next steps within some of your child's observations after 1 or 2 months.
Your child should have begun to adopt our routines and understand the expectations. This might mean that their sleep pattern changes slightly to the afternoon sleep we have here (12:45 onwards). This might also mean they are trying new foods and becoming less 'fussy'.
Tapestry observations are completed when practitioners see new learning or a development on existing knowledge and understanding, however we base our own expectations on 1 observation per day they attend. This does not mean you will receive an observation every time they attend, but on average if they attend 3 days a week we aim to record 3 observations. One of these may be an in depth account of learning taking place with others being more of an account of what they did so that parents can see what their child has been doing at nursery.
Observations are linked to the birth to 5 matters outcomes which are tracked in ranges (age brackets). If your child is working below age related expectations conversations will be held with parents and the child's learning and development closely monitored. There are lots of different reasons a child may be working below age related expectations and more often than not it is nothing to worry about at all. All children develop in different ways and at differing rates. Sometimes they just need time, or for activities/play to be delivered in a different way.
Any concerns will always be shared with parents and worked upon together.
As long as your child is happy, confident and feeling successful we would say your child is doing well. Every child is different and therefor we supply learning opportunities in different ways. Children are provided with time to be independent, to work as a team, to be creative, to explore, to investigate, to record, to problem solve, to read and enjoy literature, to write, to calculate, to be active and overall to be themselves.
We do however track all learning and development and provide parents with a written report twice a year. Within this written report your child's key worker will comment on the key areas of learning and give you an overview of how they are as an individual at Tina's Tots. Within each area it shows whether your child is below, at or above age related expectations. Without COVID these reports would be discussed face to face within the parents consolation evenings.
Each and every day your child attends comments will be sent to you on their day and their successes.
When leaving us your child's learning journal will be sent to you as a PDF document to share with their school or to keep as a memory of their initial learning journey.
